The camera controls are accessible when you are filming and can be directly manipulated from either the DOP or fullscreen interface. These are controls you will use all the time. Any camera control can be changed while you are recording.  

 

Exposure and focus controls

The exposure and focus controls are two of the main controls used within Pro Camera. Both are located within the viewfinder. The left control changes exposure, the right control changes focus. 

Exposure - To change the exposure slide the left controller up or down. Sliding the controller up increases the exposure and sliding it down decreases the exposure. The exposure control changes the digital ISO of the camera. All iPhones have fixed apertures which cannot be changed and we therefore use ISO as the main exposure variable. The exposure control should be used in conjunction with the shutter speed control to ensure the correct amount of light is being exposed onto the camera sensor. 

Focus - To change the focus slide the right controller up or down. Sliding the controller up allows you to focus on objects that are far away from the camera and sliding it down allows you to focus on objects that are close to the camera. 

By default the Exposure and Focus controls are in grab mode. Grab mode automatically puts the control into manual if it is moved, or “grabbed”.

Tapping the AUTO button under the exposure controller enables automatic exposure whereby both ISO and shutter speed will be changed automatically by the software.

Tapping the AUTO button under the focus controller enables automatic focusing. 

 

 

 

Record button

The record button can be found at the bottom right of the interface. It starts and stops recordings. 

 

 

 

Lens flyout menu

The lens menu is used to change the focus mode, toggle the digital/optical stabilizer and toggle the telephoto lens (if available). To change the focus mode select between Manual, Target or Auto. The readout on the left displays the focus mode, the zoom level (if applicable) and the lens that is currently active (if applicable). 

 

 

 

Exposure/shutter speed flyout menu

 

The exposure/shutter speed flyout menu is used to change the exposure mode to either Manual, Target or Auto. If Manual is selected the shutter speed control is enabled. Sliding the control left increases the shutter speed and sliding the control right decreases the shutter speed.

The readout on the left displays the current ISO value, shutter speed value and exposure mode. Changing the shutter speed increases/decreases the amount of time the shutter is open and therefore the amount of light entering the camera. It should be used in conjunction with the exposure control to ensure the correct amount of light is being exposed onto the camera sensor.

 

 

Fullscreen toggle

The fullscreen toggle can be found at the bottom left of the interface. Tapping on this control puts Pro Camera in/out of fullscreen mode. You can enter fullscreen mode at any point - even while you are recording.

 

 

 

Viewfinder flyout menu

The viewfinder flyout menu is used to change the shooting assistant being displayed in the viewfinder. Select between Focus Peak, False Colour, Zebras, Expanded Focus, Guides and Bars. You can also toggle an onboarding screen which will give you information about new features and links to a quick start guide. The icon on the left displays the current shooting assistant being displayed.

Colour flyout menu

The colour flyout menu is used to change the colour preset. Select between Set 1, Set 2, Set 3 or Auto. You can also edit a preset by tapping Edit. The readout on the left displays the current kelvin value and colour preset/mode. The kelvin value is the unit of measure for colour temperature. Generally, colour temperatures over 5,500K are considered cool colours (blueish-white), while lower colour temperatures, 2,700–3,200K, are considered warm colours (yellowish-white). Each set is a manual colour control and, when selected, means the colour temperature of the camera won't change unless it is edited manual in the edit colour menu. 

 

 

 

 

Edit colour menu

 

The edit colour menu is used to modify the colour settings for each preset. To modify a preset first select it from the segment control at the top. Then slide the colour temperature and tint controls left and right until you achieve the desired temperature/kelvin value. The set white balance from scene control can be used to automatically set the colour temperature from the scene and save it to a Set. To accurately set the white balance with this control first aim the camera at a grey or white card, filling the entire frame with either light grey or white.

 

 

 

Custom Function (FN) Button

The custom function button can be programmed to perform a single action from a wide range of options. This provides the means to customise the Pro Camera interface so you can have the control you want, directly on the main interface. Tap and hold for a hint flag then tap the hint flag to set the button.

 

 

 

 

Audio flyout menu

The audio flyout menu is used to change the audio gain mode to either Manual or Auto and to access the main audio settings menu. If Manual is selected the manual audio gain control is enabled. Sliding the control to the left decreases the gain and sliding the control to the right increases the gain.

Manual audio gain is available on some audio inputs, but it is device specific. If you are using an external input device, such as a microphone connected via the Lightning connector, contact the manufacture to find out whether the gain can be controlled manually using an iPhone

The icon displayed shows the current input selected, whether audio passthrough is enabled and (if manual gain is selected) the current gain level.

 

 

 

 

 

Recording Info and Timecode

The recording info readout displays the timecode, video resolution, frame per second (FPS) and bit rate that is currently being used for filming. These can be set in Timecode and Recording Format sections within the settings menu.
